News of Interest:
Meet the Breed
varieties of Belgians were represented in December 2009 at the “Meet
& Greet” held at the AKC/Eukanuba Dog Show in Long Beach,
California. The ABLA is grateful to our good friend Bruce Freedman
of TakiShan Belgians, who again invited us to participate in his
award winning both. Besides the dogs, the most notable feature of
the booth was the continuous loop, giant flat screen TV, showcasing
the 4 varieties performing in all the events in which they
excel…which is any type of competition.

News from AKC
February Board of Directors Meeting:
Ms. O’Neill, staff, was present for this portion of the meeting. There was a motion by Mrs. Schaefer, seconded by Dr. Battaglia, it was VOTE (unanimously;absent Dr. Haines) to amend the Foundation Stock Service Guidelines to lower the number of
dogs required in order to request Miscellaneous Class status. Effective immediately, a minimum of 150-200 dogs with complete three-generation pedigrees must be recorded in the
AKC Foundation Stock Service as part of the criteria for eligibility to move to the Miscellaneous Class and advancement to full registration will be contingent on growth in the enrollment of dogs in FSS and participation in AKC events.

This is a great achievement

I am very happy and excited to introduce my fellow ABLA members to Charlie (aka Hausti). Charlie is a 15 month old Belgian born (from Laeken Paradis out of the combination of van de Baartbeekhoeve Blues and Tacha Ofinka)., neutered male Laekenois who has proven himself to be a happy and energetic dog. But at the same time he is very controllable and can sit quietly in his air crate for hours. Charlie is a prime example of why being a responsible breeder and finding the right home for this breed is such hard work.
