Laeken Brags for 2010:
April/May/June Brags:
We can always count on
Sharrii Hunt and Dyna
to fill this column! They keep
busy just in from Sharrii this issue:
Dyna and I attended the Blue
Ridge Agility Club’s USDAA trial in Fletcher NC April 24th and 25th.
As usual, the BRAG members had a well organized agility trial. Dyna and I
have just recently started in USDAA and still find it a novel experience to
get placements without a “Q”.
We placed in all six events
entered and got four qualifying scores. Dyna obtained her Champion Starters
Pairs Title. And we’re just a “Q” away from obtaining her Starters Standard
and Starters Snookers title. We’re finding the “games” a real trip and are
enjoying every minute of our time at the trials.
And for very up to date
news:
June 10, 2010, Dyna –
Winjammers Wire to d’Eroudur OA OAJ OF earned her Canine Good Citizen
Award. Effective June 17, 2010, Dyna earned her Therapy Dog International
certification. As soon as all the vet info goes in, we can start working
with the Paws for Reading program in Hickory NC. We would eventually like
to work with autistic persons in the reading program.
She’s so careful around the
disabled and infirm that the evaluator suggested we also try the nursing
homes and maybe the geriatric patients at the hospital.
Pictured below is Dyna with
Kermit the Crawdad- mascot for the Hickory Crawdad Baseball team.
Between making public
appearances, earning her CGC and TDI certification Dyna still enjoys her
time on the agility field.

Kelly
Goodman and her “Fame” are another inspirational
source for all of us:
Fame
(U-GRCH U-AG1 Can CH
Winjammers Wired To Win RE NA NAJ OAP OJP NFP PT NAC)
earned his Novice Fast
Preferred title with 2 second places at the Galletin Agility trials June 5 and
6. Fame also got a 1st place ribbon in Ex A Pref Standard. Fame
also received his first leg toward his AHBA JHD herding title in Helena, MT, on
June 19th.

very, very happy. Don’t you forget I am da Casa Mont’Alves (Luisa) went to the
show also and was best baby
of the first group also. I am very, very happy.
Denyah was handled in the
breed by my 8 year old son Henrique!!!!!! And in the group by me. Luisa was
handled in the breed by me and in the group by my 2 year old daughter Isabela.
Editor’s Note: Quite the family affair Rui, in both dogs and
people!Congratulations.

NEWS OF A MORE PERSONAL NATURE COMES FROM KELLY
GOODMAN:
Kelly
writes, “Dom Icon da Casa Mont’Alves arrived in Billings MT on Friday afternoon,
none the worse for wear as he came bounding out of his crate! “Icon” made his
way from Portugal to arrive in Denver on Thursday. My friends, Linda and Debbie
Deuth, took good care of the boy until he could fly to Billings on Friday.(Pix
below taken with one of the Deuth’s Tervuren.) Thank you to Rui for sending me
such a fantastic boy. My biggest compliment is…no jet lag there! Not only is
Icon a gorgeous, red boy, but has quite a bit of energy and a very outgoing
personality. I am sure all of you will get to know this boy over the next few
years. And, we have another Laeken to add to our registration count.
Andrea Morton
writes that Satchmo has now added an RN to his name. Satch, as we wrote
last issue, is the first Laeken to earn the agility titles of AX AXJ. On top of
that Andrea and Satcho were the very first Laekenois team to receive an
invitation to the 2010 AKC Agility Invitational to be held in Long Beach, CA in
December. Well done, ALBA is proud of you both.

Sharrii Hunt
and her Dyna are keeping the Laeken in the public eye as usual. Sharrii
writes:
“Dyna and I
braved the storm of the year and attended the USDAA “tests” in Fletcher NC given
by the Blue Ridge Agility Club. Prior to the storm, they had to hire another
judge and open another ring due to the huge turnout.
Reality, in the
guise of a huge winter storm, drastically affected the turnout, from about 900+
down to about 70 on Friday and Saturday. Sunday, a few more of the locals dug
out from under 18-24 inches of snow and showed up for their runs. Dyna loved
it, romping and burying herself under the deep snow!
Since I had never
been to, or seen a USDAA trial, I spent Friday working the different events so I
could see what I had gotten Dyna and I into. It was so relaxed!
Dyna and I had 3
runs Saturday, Standard, Pairs and Gambler. We placed 1st in Starters
Standard with a score of 100, and 10 seconds under course time. Dyna placed 1st
in pairs, and 4th place in gamblers.
On Sunday we did
Starters standard, Snooker and jumpers. Dyna got 4th place in the
Standard run, 3rd place in Snooker and didn’t place in Jumpers but
finished with a score of 95 and 2 seconds under course time.
As usual, Dyna got
more than her share of attention! One judge told me we did an awesome run and
Dyna was a natural. It was hard to believe she was a Belgian. There was a nice
looking Mal and a Terv there, but they didn’t seem to garner the attention Dyna
was getting. Vendors, judges and other handlers asked to make friends with Dyna.
Vendors came by her crate and gave her goodies. Other handlers told me they
were so impressed with Dyna’s sweet nature and agility ability that they were
going to get a Laeken as their next breed. One of the handlers came by where
Dyna was crated and wanted to meet her. Said she had seen one in the Dog World
magazine and wanted to see one close up and “in the fur so to speak.” Told her
Dyna was one of the Laekens in the magazine and she was doubly impressed with
her.
