Meet the Breed:

All four
varieties of Belgians were represented in December 2009 at the “Meet
& Greet” held at the AKC/Eukanuba Dog Show in Long Beach,
California. The ABLA is grateful to our good friend Bruce Freedman
of TakiShan Belgians, who again invited us to participate in his
award winning both. Besides the dogs, the most notable feature of
the booth was the continuous loop, giant flat screen TV, showcasing
the 4 varieties performing in all the events in which they
excel…which is any type of competition.
Over 4000
dogs, 150 AKC breeds, and many rare breeds, participated in the two
day show, which had lots of special events and live demonstrations,
including herding. Carla Taylor attended, saying “The show is a
giant festival for anyone of any age who loves dogs”. Fanciers were
amazed to get to see and feel the wire coat of a Laekenois for the
first time when Lana Teresi displayed two of her Laekens the
previous year. Carla says she hopes to have her Laekens on display
at this year’s Meet & Greet, which will be the show’s last time in
California for many years to come. It moves from coast to coast,
returning to Orlando, Florida in 2011.
