Laeken Brags for 2011: November/December Brags: News in from Andrea Morton and Satchmo:
“Satchmo has earned his Excellent FAST (XF) title and the team is invited to the
Agility National again this year! He has been named Top 2011 Belgian Laekenois.
This puts the Laekens on the map in the performance competitions.” Editor’s Note: Dec 18, 2011 as I put the LaekenWire to bed, I am happy to announce that “Satch” has had all clean, qualifying runs and is making us all very proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Diane Kootz Bresee writes that in October “Trooper” earned his third leg of the Herding Started A Course sheep title. He is now Wandrlyn Roguish Reeler CGC HRD1-s HTAD1-s RN HSAs. Entered the second day he qualified for an extra “leg” and earned a Reserve High in Trial Award with a score of 93. It appears that Trooper is the first Laekenois to earn the Herding Started A Course Sheep title!
Then in November, Trooper attended an ASCA trial and earned
in Started Course on sheep (STDs) at the Stock Wranglers ACC. He was second
on Saturday with a score of 87 and won the class Sunday with a score of 86
out of a possible 100. NOTE: Just in…Trooper picked up his AHBA Ranch Large
Flock 1 on sheep title with scores of 88 and 87 out of 90! Congratulations
to this wonderful team.
October was a good month for Lynnette Gandl and her Laeken girls also. “Cami” certified in tracking and also received her first AKC Open A obedience legs. The same day, “Kaya” received her first Novice B leg with a score of 195 (possible 200) and a second place. Later in the month Kaya finished her CD title with back to back qualifying legs. Not to be left behind, Cami earned her second AKC Open A leg as well. Coming up for Kaya is a WCFO freestyle competition where she will be entered in Beginner Heelwork to Music. These versatile girls are known as Wandrlyn’s Ozark Chameleon CD RA and Kaya var Letsager CD RE RE NA NAJ NJP respectively.
Cami did not rest on her October laurels. In early November she proceeded to follow in the pawprints of her grandma Ulu and her uncle Y and completed her AKC tracking dog title. She had the 6th track of 7 and completed the run in 7 minutes! She has now added a TD after her name and only needs one more leg for the coveted CDX. On to TDX and VST……there will be no dust under THESE wire paws…. ___________________________________________________________________________________\ In from Kathy Champine: “Tater” completed her AKC Novice Agility title recently with scores of 100 (2nd place) and 95 (4th place). She can now be known as Wandrlyn Ozark Pomme de Terre CE RN NA. On to Open agility!!
No LW issue would be complete without some mention of “Fame”. He is invited to the Eukanuba Agility Invitation but the tip to Orlando will not work for owner Kelly Goodman. Kelly does say that the warmer weather in FL is much more enticing than the colder weather they are experience in Montana however! Fame has also qualified for the AK Agility Nationals to be held in Reno in 2012. She doesn’t know if they can make that competition as there are 8 other Belgians and a farm to be looked after at home. So, Satchmo”, it’s up to you to uphold the Laekenois honor for all of us!! Fame, U-GRCH U-AG1 Can CH Winjammers Wired To Win RE NA NAJ NF MXP2 MJP PT CGC,
September/October Brags: Cheryl Robotka reports that her “Bella” Wandrlyn’s Ozark Belle D’Avatar CE competed in her first AKC conformation show at the Greater Racine Kennel Club Aug 14, 2011. Bella was handled by one of her co-owners Kathy Champine. She took 1st place in Open Bitches, Best of Breed and Best In Misc class (she was the only Laekenois there). Bella also was in Meet The Breeds booth at this show. She did a great job meeting kids, adults and even handicapped people. Wheelchairs did not bother her a bit; she just wanted to be petted by all. I even had show people come over to see a real Laekenois in person Bella and I also competed at the WI State Fair Aug 8th in Team Obedience. Our team took 2nd place. For those of you who are not familiar with Team Obedience, it is a competition of 4 dogs and handlers doing Novice obedience exercises together, like synchronized swimming. The recall is a drop on recall which is what usually decides the winner. The judge commented that our team was the best synchronized heeling that he has ever seen!. After that it spread like wildfire that there was a Laekenois present and the staff of this event came to seek us out to make sure we were part of the Parade of Breeds. Bella was also part of the Greater Racine Kennel club’s booth as well and did a great job greeting people. Many were educated about the Laekenois as well as the other flavors of Belgians. Bella has many fans as they all wanted to take her home. We are looking forward to more Rally, Obedience, and conformation soon!
Wandrlyn’s Ozark Belle D’Avatar CD ________________________________________________________________________________ The very exciting young bitch bred by Rui Alves Monteiro and owned by Maja Zaluska strutted her stuff in Sweden recently and won the coveted Best Opposite Sex CACIB BOS SE V-11 under American judge Gloria Kerr from the Junior class. “Luisa”, a lovely example of the Laekenois, is now a Nordic and Swedish Junior Winner. She is pictured below.
Don’t You Forget I Am da Casa Mont’Alves ____________________________________________________________ In from the always active Sharrii Hunt and her “Dyna: in North Carolina: On June 18, 2011, we went to the Western Carolina dog Fanciers Rally and Obedience AKC trial in Waynesville NC. We attended just the one day and Dyna placed 1st in her Rally EX A class and receiver her RE title. She place 2nd in the Nov A obedience and earned her AD title. August 12 and 13th we attended the Greater Monroe KC Agility trial in Concord NC. Here Dyna acquired her 2nd leg in Open JWW Preferred with a 2nd place. The following day she earned her Novice Preferred Standard and her Open JWW Preferred titles, both with first places. Congratulations to Sharrii and Dyna who are so busy showcasing our Laekenois!

his MXP and MJP this summer. Fame is the #2 Belgian Laekenois in
agility.
Along with that, Luka, Detection da Casa Mont’Alves, earned her AKC Herding titles: IT (HIC), HT and PT.
April/May/June Brags: We can always count on Sharrii Hunt and Dyna to fill this column! They keep busy just in from Sharrii this issue: Dyna and I attended the Blue Ridge Agility Club’s USDAA trial in Fletcher NC April 24th and 25th. As usual, the BRAG members had a well organized agility trial. Dyna and I have just recently started in USDAA and still find it a novel experience to get placements without a “Q”. We placed in all six events entered and got four qualifying scores. Dyna obtained her Champion Starters Pairs Title. And we’re just a “Q” away from obtaining her Starters Standard and Starters Snookers title. We’re finding the “games” a real trip and are enjoying every minute of our time at the trials. And for very up to date news: June 10, 2010, Dyna – Winjammers Wire to d’Eroudur OA OAJ OF earned her Canine Good Citizen Award. Effective June 17, 2010, Dyna earned her Therapy Dog International certification. As soon as all the vet info goes in, we can start working with the Paws for Reading program in Hickory NC. We would eventually like to work with autistic persons in the reading program. She’s so careful around the disabled and infirm that the evaluator suggested we also try the nursing homes and maybe the geriatric patients at the hospital. Pictured below is Dyna with Kermit the Crawdad- mascot for the Hickory Crawdad Baseball team. Between making public appearances, earning her CGC and TDI certification Dyna still enjoys her time on the agility field.
Kelly Goodman and her “Fame” are another inspirational source for all of us: Fame (U-GRCH U-AG1 Can CH Winjammers Wired To Win RE NA NAJ OAP OJP NFP PT NAC) earned his Novice Fast Preferred title with 2 second places at the Galletin Agility trials June 5 and 6. Fame also got a 1st place ribbon in Ex A Pref Standard. Fame also received his first leg toward his AHBA JHD herding title in Helena, MT, on June 19th. ________________________________________________ Rui Alves Monteiro, one of
our newest memb Denyah, 5 months after delivering her babies, went to a show and got 2nd in Group. I was very, very happy. Don’t you forget I am da Casa Mont’Alves (Luisa) went to the show also and was best baby of the first group also. I am very, very happy. Denyah was handled in the
breed by my 8 year old son Henrique!!!!!! And in the group by me. Luisa was
handled in the breed by me and in the group by my 2 year old daughter Isabela.
January/February/March Brags: NEWS OF A MORE PERSONAL NATURE COMES FROM KELLY GOODMAN: Kelly writes, “Dom Icon da Casa Mont’Alves arrived in Billings MT on Friday afternoon, none the worse for wear as he came bounding out of his crate! “Icon” made his way from Portugal to arrive in Denver on Thursday. My friends, Linda and Debbie Deuth, took good care of the boy until he could fly to Billings on Friday.(Pix below taken with one of the Deuth’s Tervuren.) Thank you to Rui for sending me such a fantastic boy. My biggest compliment is…no jet lag there! Not only is Icon a gorgeous, red boy, but has quite a bit of energy and a very outgoing personality. I am sure all of you will get to know this boy over the next few years. And, we have another Laeken to add to our registration count.
Andrea Morton writes that Satchmo has now added an RN to his name. Satch, as we wrote last issue, is the first Laeken to earn the agility titles of AX AXJ. On top of that Andrea and Satcho were the very first Laekenois team to receive an invitation to the 2010 AKC Agility Invitational to be held in Long Beach, CA in December. Well done, ALBA is proud of you both.

Sharrii Hunt and her Dyna are keeping the Laeken in the public eye as usual. Sharrii writes: “Dyna and I braved the storm of the year and attended the USDAA “tests” in Fletcher NC given by the Blue Ridge Agility Club. Prior to the storm, they had to hire another judge and open another ring due to the huge turnout.
Reality, in the guise of a huge winter storm, drastically affected the turnout, from about 900+ down to about 70 on Friday and Saturday. Sunday, a few more of the locals dug out from under 18-24 inches of snow and showed up for their runs. Dyna loved it, romping and burying herself under the deep snow!
Since I had never been to, or seen a USDAA trial, I spent Friday working the different events so I could see what I had gotten Dyna and I into. It was so relaxed!
Dyna and I had 3 runs Saturday, Standard, Pairs and Gambler. We placed 1st in Starters Standard with a score of 100, and 10 seconds under course time. Dyna placed 1st in pairs, and 4th place in gamblers.
On Sunday we did Starters standard, Snooker and jumpers. Dyna got 4th place in the Standard run, 3rd place in Snooker and didn’t place in Jumpers but finished with a score of 95 and 2 seconds under course time.
As usual, Dyna got more than her share of attention! One judge told me we did an awesome run and Dyna was a natural. It was hard to believe she was a Belgian. There was a nice looking Mal and a Terv there, but they didn’t seem to garner the attention Dyna was getting. Vendors, judges and other handlers asked to make friends with Dyna. Vendors came by her crate and gave her goodies. Other handlers told me they were so impressed with Dyna’s sweet nature and agility ability that they were going to get a Laeken as their next breed. One of the handlers came by where Dyna was crated and wanted to meet her. Said she had seen one in the Dog World magazine and wanted to see one close up and “in the fur so to speak.” Told her Dyna was one of the Laekens in the magazine and she was doubly impressed with her.
Sharrii & Dyna”
