Laekenois Brags for 2008

November/December Brags:

ZARKO’S SATCHMO VAN MORTON OWNED BY Andrea Morton is at it again….making Laekens look good!  Satchmo completed his novice title in Jumpers with Weaves at the Nashville Dog Training Club, October 4th and 5th, in Franklin, TN.  Andrea reports that he was “totally awesome and I am so proud of him, especially since we are in the middle of a kitchen remodel.  Go Satch go”.  I second that, GO SATCH GO!!!!

Kelly Goodman and “Fame” are quite a team!  Kelly writes:  “At the Helena, MT shows Sept 20 and 21, Fame finished his RE with 2 second places.  Then the weekend of October 18 and 19, Fame earned his HT by doing an outstanding job at the RMGSDC herding trials in Colorado. It was a gorgeous weekend with both days in the 70s.  The club and stock handlers did a fantastic job, and the stock was just great!   Fame had multiple compliments and one of the judges commented on his sense of balance. J  Go Laekens!

Carole Goetzelmann wanted to title her “Balto” in the Laekenois’ AKC’s premier year of 2008, and she did!!  Balto finished his last leg for his RN on Nov 8, 2008 at the Columbus All Breed DTC in Ohio. Carole said it was hard to get a photo of his whole body as he’s always running around or standing in the shade.  Sounds like one of our smart Belgians to me! So, here’ a head shot of our new RN.

Last issue we read all about Ulu.  This time it’s her son “Yancy”, following in his mother’s footsteps.  Yancy earned a TD at the Tracking Club of Wisconsin’s trial in Waupaca.  Judges were Michele Gillette and Ed Presnall.  Boy, the “like mother like son” saying really fits here!

WOW!  Another Laeken herding title “Oscar” earned his herding PT title on November 2, 2008.  Owner Lana Teresi writes that “ it is hard to get a good herding shot since he is always on the move….so I will attach another picture of him.”  (sound familiar?!)  With cold winter days here, what a great photo J

As with many others, “River” is a return to our brag column. He earned his last Jumpers with Weaves leg on October 19, 2008 in Lawrence Kansas at the Kansas City Golden Agility Trial  A clean run course time was 38 seconds and River’s time was 26.96!  Kay writes that she they still have some issues to work out before he gets those open titles, “Like me. I need to run faster”. Bet we’ll be reading about Open title brags soon for this talented pair.

Lynnette Gandl and her Wandrlyn Belgians have been very busy!! First is “Whiskey”, who has garnered not one, but TWO titles since our last issue. Whiskey is not yet two years old and was breeder, owner handled by Lynnette to his HT completed September 14, 2008 under judge Sue Haase at the Great River Stock Dog Club of Minnesota held in Northfield, MN and his Rally Novice title completed November 8, 2008 under Kathleen Galotti at the Twin Cities Schaunzer Club Trial held in Rally MN.  Whiskey is working on his Rally Advanced title now, and I’m sure Lynnette will be bragging again soon!

The next Wandrlyn star  bred, owned and handled by Lynnette, is Whiskey’s sister, “Cami”.

Cami completed her Rally Novice title under judge Louise Botko on November 9, 2008 at the same Schnauzer trial in Hugo, MN. For her second and third legs she received two second places, including a score of 100!  (the photo below is multi-talented Cami herding with Lynnette)

We’re not done yet! “Kaya” arrived a year ago from Han and Mirjam Busser of the Netherlands.  She joined Lynnette’s family a year ago, at age one.  Now two, Kaya completed her Rally Novice title the same day as Cami under the same judge at the same trial.  Lynnette must have been worn out! J At the last event she met a woman from Holland who spoke to her in Dutch and Kaya listened very attentively to her first language, one she’d not heard in the year since coming to the US.

September/October Brags:

Heidi Lund and her EMERIE VAN DE DUVETORRE completed Emerie’s Rally Excellent title with a FIRST PLACE on Friday August 18, 2008 at the Cambridge MN rally trial. Outstanding!!! ( No photo submitted)

ZARKO’S SATCHMO VAN MORTON owned by Andrea Morton earned his Novice Standard Agility title at the Dalmation Club of America’s Agility Trial held August 1, 2008. Satchmo only needs 1 leg in Jumpers and also in Rally to complete those titles as well!! Very impressive Andrea!! And, not surprisely, Andrea reports that she and Satchmo (below exiting the tunnel at the finish line) are having lots of fun.

WINJAMMER’S WIRED TO WIN NR NA NAJ CGC has now added RA to the alphabet soup after his name! “Fame” finished his Rally Advanced title with a 2nd on Friday, August 29, 2008 and a 1st place on Saturday. If that wasn’t enough, on Sunday Fame’s owner Kelly Goodman moved him up to Rally Excellent and guess what???? You got it…..a leg with another BLUE RIBBON. A performance photo of Fame is not available as we reach deadline, but here’s Fame:

A very special brag is in from Charlene Denys regarding her ULU VAN DE DUVETORRE which I’d like to print in it’s entirety At the age of 12+, and 12 months after major back surgery, Ulu (ONYX UUD UAG2 Ulu van de Duvetorre HTD1sg HRD2s BH SCT FMD TF2 VCX2) demonstrated she still really likes having a job to do, and has the persistence to get it done. She is now the proud bearer of one more title an AKC TD! She earned it at the Timber Ridge Obedience Club of Central Wisconsin tracking event on September 7, under judges Ed Presnall and Mel Lloyd.

She did have to work for it. The location generally has medium cover, which I knew Ulu would appreciate, and the day was lovely comfortably cool, partly cloudy, with a light refreshing breeze. So I was a little apprehensive when we drew a track with heavy cover dense vegetation 34 feet high, and then some. I should have known better. Ulu is all about challenges, once she has her mind set on something. The cover made for several tracking line/vegetation tangles, but Ulu waited patiently while I handtrimmed some vegetation to free the line so we could continue along the track.

Ulu Van De Duvetorre TD

On the last leg, in retrospect, I think she was paralleling the track by a few feet because it was less hard walking, but when she detected her article, she took a hard fast left to get to it, and lay down in front of it triumphantly, front paws neatly framing the glove. Needless to say, I was thrilled.

When Jona Decker, her "aunt", cheerleader, and coowner appeared after the track was done, Ulu was all happy wiggles. It was a great day all around, and I have a lot of people to thank for making it possible!

The picture is Ulu during an early summer practice session.

Lynette Gandl reports that her Wandrlyn’s Ozark Moonshine earned his HT (Herding Tested) title on Sunday September 14, 2008, in Northfield, MN. She is proud of “Whiskey’s” performance and stock sense at the young age of 20 months.

July/August Brags:

A happy Sharrii Hunt reports that her “Dyna” is now known as Winjammer’s Wired to D’Eroudur NA having earned the last 2 legs needed for her Novice Agility title in Fletcher NC the weekend of May 30-June 1, 2008.  She needs one more leg to complete the Novice JWW title.  To quote Sharrii, “three   blue Qs earned this past weekend and Sunday was THE day…a double blue Q and a title.  What a great ending to a busy weekend!”  Warm congratulations to Sharrii for the successes with her first agility dog.

But wait!  Shortly before deadline, Sharrii reported in again that Dyna   earned  two  Open Standard legs with blue Qs over the July 4th weekend. We’ll be seeing that OA title in no time at this rate.

Not to be outdone by a GIRL, Kelly  Goodman’s  “Fame” has this to say:  “ I had a very good June.  On June 7th at the Gallatin AKC Agility trials in Bozeman, MT, I finished my Novice Standard agility title with a blue ribbon.  Soon afterwards Mom took me to the Five Valley Rally trials in Missoula, MT.   I finished my Rally Novice title with a score of 99 along with a first place over 17 entries!!  So, my AKC titles now make me Winjammer’s Wired To Win, NR NA NAJ CGC.”

Well, it sounds like those Laeken boys are keeping right up with the Laeken girls!!!!!  A huge round of applause goes to Kelly and Fame.

And from Heidi:  Emerie also earned her Rally Excellent title August 15th, at the Cambridge Kennel Club show, with a 1st, 2nd & 4th place.

May/June Brags:

Kelly Goodman reports that her “Fame” Winjammer’s Wired  To Win, came out of hibernation thinking that Spring was here.  In their travels, they drove through many snow flurries.  But even with that, April turned out to be a pretty good agility month!  At the Casper, WY trials, Fame made his debut in AKC agility and earned two NAJ (Novice Jumpers with Weaves) legs with a first and second place, then added  a NA ( Novice Agility) leg with a blue ribbon.  At the Helena, MT agility trials, Fame earned his first AKC title NAJ with a red ribbon to mark the occasion.   The following day, Fame garnered his second NA leg with another blue!
